My Work

For an independent project, I chose to create a publicity campaign for Town Hall Theatre, a small children’s community theatre in Centerville, Ohio.  Town Hall Theatre produced “The Wizard of Oz” in Spring of 2016. I created pieces to be used to help market and advertise the show.

I wrote an initial press release about the production’s details. I also included an addendum with more details and quotations that would be distributed closer to the show’s production dates. I created a radio script to air on local channels. I designed a poster for the show that can be hung at schools and local businesses. I concluded my publicity campaign with an analysis, including other marketing ideas the theatre could use to drive sales.

Through one of my advertising classes I worked on a team with 4 other students to produce a comprehensive advertising campaign for the Shenandoah Valley Scholars' Latino Initiative, or SV-SLI.

The purpose of our campaign was to increase donations and donor retention for the organization.  Our campaign was composed of three parts: Strategy, Corporate Advertising Pieces, and Creative Advertising Pieces.

We conducted demographic research as well as personal interviews to create a strategy statement for our campaign, including a consumer profile, current mindset, and analysis of the client's competitors.  Through this we established a "Thank you" campaign.  Our campaign focused on expressing gratitude for those who help SV-SLI.  We incorporated the idea of "Thank you" cards, a classic and timeless way to show appreciation, into our campaign.

The theme of gratitude was evident in our other pieces. We worked to establish solid branding for SV-SLI and consistency within our campaign.

We created a fact sheet for the organization, using consistent colors and relevant statistics about

SV-SLI as well as other data about the geographic region it operates in.

We also brainstormed ideas for a fundraiser publicity event and created its press release.

In addition to the research/strategy and the corporate advertising pieces, we also created print advertisements, a video commercial, and a radio commercial, and a social media strategy. We wrote scripts, incorporated feedback, and produced them on our own for the client to use. For social media, we revamped their Facebook page to emphasize the tone of gratitude. We also created a social media editorial calendar with a schedule of posts and three different hashtags to use each week.

Our campaign pieces all fell under the cohesive idea of "thank you" and were well received by the client when we presented to them.

I served on the editorial board for the James Madison Undergraduate Research Journal for Volume 3.  I worked on the Marketing/Outreach team and the Design team.

I designed cover pages for articles that were published in the journal. I created banner advertisements for website in the form of cascade slides. I alsoï‚· launched a PR sticker project that advertised the journal to coffee shop goers. I ï‚· maintained & grew the journal's Facebook page. I also assisted with a photo contest and recruited photographers to submit through the journal's social media. I wrote and submitted advertisements to a widely circulated weekly brochure on campus, "Table Tents."
ï‚·

I screened potential article submissions as well as proofread articles. Finally, I designed and presented a poster of the journal for the 2016 Honors Research Symposium (pictured left).

Through a business course at JMU, I worked on a team of 6 students with local nonprofit Gift & Thrit. We acted as consultants, meeting with the client to discuss their needs for growth. Our client emphasized a need for long term volunteers.

My team and I decided to focus on recruitment strategy. We planned a volunteer information session at the thrift shop. We also created an informational flyer to advertise the event. We each came up with different poster/flyer ideas and presented them to the client for feedback. After, I translated our rough sketches into a poster using Photoshop and the company's Pantone colors. We then distributed the flyers around campus. Our client was very pleased with our work.
